Adding Integers Worksheet
Examples, solutions, videos, and worksheets to help Grade 6 students learn how to add integers.
There are six sets of adding integers worksheets:
- add two 1-digit integers (same sign)
- add two 1-digit integers (different signs)
- add two 1-digit integers (same or different signs)
- add two 2-digit integers (same sign)
- add two 2-digit integers (same or different signs)
- add three 1-digit integers (same or different signs)
We can use the following steps when adding two integers:
- If the integers have the same sign then add the two integers. The sum will take the same sign.
For example:
(+7) + (+9) = +16
(-8) + (-3) = -11
- If the integers have different signs then look at the absolute values of the integers. Subtract the smaller absolute value from the larger absolute value. The sum will take the sign of the larger absolute value.
For example:
(+5) + (-3) = +2
(-7) + (+2) = -5
- Adding zero to any integer does not change its value. For example:
(+9) + 0 = +9
(-5) + 0 = -5
